FAQ
1. Which class should I attend? The BEGINNERS class is for all newcomers to Salsa and will cover the basic steps. Students can expect to join the Improvers after two to three classes.
The IMPROVERS class is for those students comfortable with the basic steps and will cover the basic techniques of LA/NY style Salsa. Intermediate students who have no knowledge of LA/NY style Salsa should take a couple of Improvers classes before attending the higher level classes.
The Level 3 class will teach you how to use those basic techniques learnt in previous classes and increase your repertoire of turn patterns, while learning to dance with the music. Some basic men and ladies styling will be covered.
The Level 4 class will cover more complicated techniques and turn patterns along with men and ladies styling. To join this class the followers must be able to comfortably complete a double spin and the leaders must be able to lead it.
2. Which shoes should I be wearing?
Shoes that are comfortable and provide good support. Trainers are fine for beginners but as you continue to dance regularly a pair of dance shoes are a must as they have improved support and low friction soles making turns easier.
3. What should I wear for class?
Comfortable, light-weight clothing that will not restrict body movement.
4. Do I need to bring a partner?
You can come alone or as a couple, we rotate partners throughout the class.
6. What are open classes?
Open classes or drop in classes as they are often refered to, are classes you can just turn up to. You do not need to book in advance and you can start at any time. All our beginners and Improvers classes are open classes.
7. How long does it take to learn Salsa?
It depends on how much time you put into taking classes, how much you go out and dance socially, how good your sense of rhythm is and how quickly you master the steps and combinations.
